One dead and two injured in fatal collision near Frontage Road
PHOENIX, AZ (January 19, 2022) – On Wednesday evening, one person was killed and another was injured in a collision with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 17.
Police say the crash happened on the east and north lanes of the freeway near Grant Street.
According to reports, the driver of a Chevy SUV was heading east on Grant Street and collided with a northbound tractor-trailer for unknown reasons.
Medics arrived soon after and transported the SUV driver to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. However, his unidentified passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, paramedics treated the tractor-trailer driver for minor injuries before also taking him to a local hospital.
Investigators currently believe the driver of the SUV may have failed to stop at a red light. However, an active investigation is still ongoing.
