43-year-old man dies after head-on collision near Lakeland


LAKELAND – A 43-year-old man from Lakeland died in a frontal accident near Lakeland on Thursday evening.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Polk County Fire Department responded to the crash on Frontage Road South, near the intersection with Matthew Road at around 7:22 p.m.

According to Sheriff officials, Jorge Rodriguez, Jr. of Lakeland was driving a white 2019 Hino 268 box body truck west on Frontage Road and Eric Farr, also of Lakeland, was driving a silver 2015 Toyota Rav4 east in the lane in west direction.

Reports said the two drivers swerved south in an attempt to avoid crashing, but collided head-on.

The drivers of the two vehicles were the only people involved, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. The two drivers were taken to hospital.

Farr of Lakeland later died in hospital while Rodriguez, 39, suffered minor injuries.

PCSO Homicide Unit detectives determined that Farr was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, but Rodriguez was.

Frontage Road was closed for approximately four hours. The investigation is ongoing.
