Biker killed in New Years Day collision in Long Beach


On January 1, 2022, at approximately 2:13 a.m., officers responded to the Broadway and Olive Avenue area in an injury collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV, which resulted in the death of a man adult.

Upon arrival, officers located an unconscious adult male on the roadway with serious upper body injuries. Officers began providing life-saving assistance until personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived at the scene and transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital, where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.

During their preliminary investigation, detectives learned that the motorcyclist was heading east on Broadway at high speed when he collided with the rear of another vehicle which was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Broadway and Alamitos Avenue. The occupants of the other vehicle were not injured, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Currently, speed, impaired driving and distracted driving are being investigated as possible factors in this collision.

The identity of the motorcyclist is withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County office.
