Matthew Moen arrested after running a red light and fatally punching 2 victims on 5th Avenue
CHICO, Calif. (February 3, 2022) – Cassi Tejeda and Courtney Kendal were killed in a DUI collision on Neal Dow Avenue on Sunday evening.
The incident happened around 5:00 p.m. near the intersection of 5th and Neal Dow Avenue. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly thereafter.
According to reports, 31 years Matthew Moen was traveling 80mph in a 25mph zone when he passed the red light on Neal Dow. There, he crashed into a vehicle crossing a green light on 5th Avenue.
The vehicle Moen hit was then pushed into the garage of a nearby home. Due to the impact of the collision, crews said both occupants of this vehicle died at the scene.
Additionally, the man who lives in the house told Action News Now he was sitting by his front window when it happened.
Chico authorities arrested Moen, 31, after the fatal DUI collision. Currently, he is being held in lieu of $300,000 bond with two counts of manslaughter with an impaired vehicle.
Eventually, the Butte County Coroner’s Office identified the two deceased victims as 22-year-old Tejeda and 24-year-old Kendall.
