Driver charged with vehicle homicide in Hollywood scooter collision – NBC 6 South Florida

A fatal collision involving a car and a scooter in Hollywood has resulted in homicide and reckless driving charges for a Miami man.

Isaiah Dameon Lafleur, 18, checked himself into the Broward County Jail on Monday.

According to the arrest report, Lafleur was driving a red 2019 Chevrolet Camaro in the 5400 block of eastbound Stirling Road around 9 p.m. on Dec. 19 when he struck a black 2013 Yamaha scooter, ejecting and killing the driver.

Investigators determined the Camaro accelerated to about 72 mph on a 45 mph street and was trying to pass a Kia Soul that was traveling at about 66 mph. The scooter was traveling at around 30 mph when it was struck, according to the report.

Hollywood Hills High School surveillance video showed the scooter had all its lights on and signaled a lane change just before the collision in the dimly lit street.

A witness said Lafleur got out of the Camaro to check on the driver. Lafleur was cited at the scene, records show.

During Lafleur’s first court appearance on Tuesday, Broward Assistant District Attorney Ross Weiner said Lafleur also has outstanding warrants in Miami-Dade County for reckless driving, speeding and fleeing police. .

He remains in jail with bonds totaling $47,000, records show.

The victim’s name has been removed from the arrest report.
