Driver cited after 3 vehicle collision on Interstate 57 near Neoga | Local
NEOGA – Illinois State Police have cited a driver for various traffic violations following an accident involving three vehicles with injuries on Wednesday on Interstate 57, two miles north of Neoga .
State Police District 12 reported that the crash occurred at around 7:45 a.m. as an SUV driven by Jeffrey B. Diestelhorst of Neoga and a car driven by Denise P. Kelley of Mattoon were driving towards north on I-57 in Cumberland County.
According to state police, the SUV struck the rear of the car at about mile marker 179. The SUV rolled off the roadway to the west, crossed the median and struck the back of a towed trailer. by a semi-truck driven by Ashley K. Gholson of Mattoon. The SUV and semi-trailer came to rest in the southbound lanes, and the car came to rest on the eastbound northbound shoulder. No injuries were reported.
State Police reported that Diestelhorst, 60, had been ticketed for driving too fast for the conditions, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, not wearing a seat belt and misusing the lanes.
Thursday’s press release described the incident as a personal injury accident, but did not provide details on the injured drivers or the extent of the injuries.
