Driver identified in fatal train-vehicle collision in Richland County

RICHLAND CO., SC (WOLO) – The Richland County Coroner’s Office identified the driver of a fatal train-vehicle collision on Thursday.

Jeremy Williams, 32, was pronounced dead at a local hospital after the collision at the intersection of Cushman Drive and Ames Road.

According to Columbia police, around 6 a.m. surveillance video showed Williams driving around the crossing barrier, which was active and functioning properly with warning lights.

Williams’ vehicle was then struck by an Amtrak train from the driver’s side.

This incident is still under investigation.

Operation Lifesaver says to never drive through lowered doors, leave your vehicle if it gets stuck in the tracks, locate the emergency notification system number and call to let them know.
