Fatal collision between snowmobile and pickup truck
With winter weather under full control in the region, health officials say concerns are heightened about safety issues during recreational activities.
After a few winters of light snowpack, snowmobilers in southern and central New York are enjoying more opportunities to ride the trails, but this can have tragic consequences if snowmobilers are not careful.
New York State Police say a 57-year-old snowmobiler was killed in Oswego County on Thursday, Jan. 27, when his snow machine collided with a pickup truck.

Soldiers say John Behr of Central Square was riding a 2005 Yamaha on a state trail around a quarter past four Thursday afternoon when he failed to pull over for the stop sign posted at the State Snowmobile Trail 4 and Fuller Road in the town of Hastings and collided with the driver’s side of a pickup truck driven by John Horning, 58, of Parish, New York, traveling north on a public road.
Behr was pronounced dead at the scene while Horning was uninjured.
The investigation is continuing.
