Kent policeman sustains minor injuries in collision with vehicle

Another driver broke his leg in a July 26 crash at SE 208th Street and 116th Avenue SE

A Kent Police officer suffered minor injuries after colliding with another vehicle around 9am on Tuesday July 26 at the intersection of 116th Avenue Southeast and 208th Street Southeast.

“We had an officer responding to an emergency call driving with lights and a siren on,” Kent Police Chief Rafael Padilla said in an email. “The officer was attempting to clear the intersection of 116th Avenue SE and 208th Street SE. A vehicle was traveling south through the intersection and that vehicle and the patrol vehicle collided.

Padilla said the officer suffered minor injuries but was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The driver of the other vehicle suffered a broken leg and was taken to hospital for further treatment, Padilla said. The vehicle was carrying three passengers who were slightly injured.

Padilla said traffic investigators are trying to determine the cause of the collision. The police closed the intersection for about two hours.

“This is an active investigation so I don’t have any additional information at this time,” Padilla said.
