The planning commission receives the monthly update of the overall plan

The planning commissioners received the monthly update of the Global Plan 2040 during the planning commission meeting on Tuesday.

City of Siloam Springs staff worked with Freese and Nichols to create a new overall plan for the city, which would involve a new future land use map, as well as taking citizen input on different things like residential and commercial areas and green spaces.

Part of the process involves Freese and Nichols submitting a monthly report to the planning commission. The first two phases of the process are complete, according to Freese and Nichols’ monthly report by Dawn Warrick of April 4. Most of Phases III and IV are also complete, the report says.

Public participation is still ongoing and a third community meeting is scheduled for May 19, the report said. On April 19, an update will be presented to the planning commission and city council, the report said.

Completed items include the new future land use map, as well as plans for transportation/mobility, economic development, housing, and resilience (formerly called “habitability”), the report said.

Drafts of the reports regarding community character and public facilities/utilities were provided to city staff, the report said.

After the community meeting and joint update from the planning commission and city council, the plan will be adopted, the report said.

For the adoption process, there will be a joint workshop for the CPAC (comprehensive plan advisory committee), the planning commission and the board of directors which is scheduled for June 7, the report said.

A public planning commission hearing has been tentatively scheduled for July 7 and a public board hearing has been tentatively scheduled for July, although no date has been given at this time, it says. The report.
