VPD investigates fatal traffic collision – Times-Herald

The Vallejo Police Department is currently investigating a fatal road collision that occurred on Saturday evening. This is the first fatal road accident in Vallejo that left two people dead in 2022.

The collision occurred at approximately 9:22 p.m. at the 1000 block of Shasta Street near Tennessee Street. The collision left two people dead after a car crashed into a tree.

Officers arrived in less than a minute and discovered a vehicle in full swing with at least two occupants inside, according to a press release sent by VPD on Monday afternoon.

Vallejo firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after to extinguish the vehicle fire and confirmed two people were inside. Unfortunately, the two occupants were declared dead at the scene by medical staff from Vallejo Fire.

“Firefighters were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire possibly endangering a structure, with several callers reporting that there may be occupants still in the vehicle,” the fire department spokesman said. Vallejo and firefighter Aaron Klauber at The Times-Herald. “We sent a first full alarm mission (four engines, a truck and a battalion commander), engines 23 and 24 arrived almost simultaneously with battalion 21 and launched a fire attack and rescue on the vehicle, but quickly determined that there were no viable casualties. The vehicle showed obvious damage consistent with a car accident.

Prior to the collision, an officer observed the same vehicle, identified as a 2005 blue Infiniti G35, driving recklessly and spinning donuts in the vicinity of Shasta Street and Springs Road, the statement said. Upon seeing the officer, the vehicle turned off its headlights and fled northbound on Shasta at high speed. In the interest of public safety, the officer stopped all attempts to stop and did not pursue the vehicle.

Preliminary details regarding the collision indicate that the driver of the vehicle was heading north on Shasta Street at high speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with two unoccupied parked vehicles and a large tree. The vehicle then caught fire and ignited.

The deceased include an adult male and a minor. The age, residence and identity of the deceased are withheld pending positive identification and notification of the next of kin by the Solano County Coroner’s Office.

The traffic division of the Vallejo Police Department responded to resume the investigation.
