Woman killed, man injured in wrong-way crash on Interstate 8 [San Diego, CA]
One dead, one hospitalized after head-on crash near Sunset Cliffs Boulevard
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (January 14, 2022) – Late Tuesday evening, a woman died and a man was injured in a wrong-way collision on Interstate 8.
The incident occurred around 11:24 p.m. on the westbound lanes of Interstate 8 near Sunset Cliffs Boulevard.
Reports indicate that a 24-year-old man from Sacramento was driving a blue Subaru Outback eastbound on the westbound lanes. There he finally collided head-on with a golden Toyota Camry driven by a 54-year-old woman.
Due to the impact of the collision, responding officers pronounced the woman dead at the scene and medics rushed the man to a local hospital for further treatment.
Additionally, officers arrested the male driver of the Subaru on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs before taking him into custody.
Additionally, police closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 8 and redirected traffic to Sports Arena Boulevard from midnight to 3:48 a.m.
At this point, an active investigation into the wrong-way collision on Interstate 8 is still ongoing.
